A Sensitive, Smart, Experienced Editor

Have you written a book or a story for kids? Do you feel you need a little help to make it perfect? Don't let it sit in your drawer!

I have a 35-year track record as a writer and editor in children's books and magazines. I have worked at Children's Television Workshop, Jim Henson Productions, Scholastic, and HarperCollins. As an author, I've published over 200 books, nonfiction and fiction, for kids of all ages. My books have won numerous awards and been produced on television and radio.

Editing makes for a very pleasant counterpoint to writing, and I love helping people make their writing better. I'll be gentle with your precious manuscript, but I will also be honest with you. If I think that what you've written needs just a light edit, I'll do that for an affordable fee. If I feel you need to do some re-thinking, I'll ask targeted questions to help you do that, and we'll negotiate a fair rate before we start. Though of course I can't promise that your manuscript will be published, our goal will be to end up with one that's bright, shiny, and hopefully publishable.

"I haven't been this excited about work in years! Thanks so much for helping me make this book into what it is today...a REAL children's book! This has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember."

"It was a pleasure to meet you, and talk to you, AND learn a lot from you. I have now a lot of work ahead of me and I'm excited to start on it!"

"I have known and worked with Ellen Weiss for over twenty-five years. She came to work at The Jim Henson Company and was the senior editor there for several years. I was the publisher and Ellen was, without a doubt, one of the most talented and gifted editor/writers whom I have ever had the pleasure of working with, as she made the Muppets characters come to life in print just almost as much as they were on television and film.

Ellen is so generous and talented and her writing is as warmhearted and loving as she is as a human being. Her work and the characters she creates make her young readers the beneficiaries of her vast talent.

How lucky I was, as a publisher, to have had such a gifted author."
